Both boards of the book have been detached. The book was previously rebacked, but the leather has red rot and has fallen apart.
The aim of this project is to reattach both boards to the book block using Emma Fraser's technique, stabilize and consolidate the leather with Klucel G, and prevent further degradation. Most importantly is to make the object safe to handle.
I also used archival paper to build up the depth of the missing leather parts and toned Japanese paper to cover the repair.
