Object recto before treatment

The object is an etching by William Hogarth from 1747. It is one of the plates from a series of 12 plates. The overall condition of the object is fair, discoloured , accumulated with dirt . There are tears along edges , some areas have been folded. Repairs for tears as well as dry cleaning are needed to consolidate it.

List of Treatment Performed:

1. Dry Cleaning with smoke sponge and rubber erasers

2. Aqueous treatment (immersive wash with cold water, pH 7.2 tap water) - two wash

3. Repaired the tears with Japanese tissue strip (7gsm tengujo tissue)

4. Introduced slight moisture and pressed to dry
