This cloth-covered account book is in poor condition, with a missing spring, meaning it has lost its function as a springback book.

In this project, the spring has been reconstructed using box-folding board. The new spring was then covered with book cloth that was carefully toned to match the original material.

Additionally, the four corners have been reconstructed using Malina paper to protect the book block. These reconstructed corners were then covered with toned Japanese paper for added durability and aesthetic consistency

List of Treatment Performed:

  1. Dry Cleaning with smoke sponge and rubber erasers

  2. Reconstructed the spring and reattached to the book structure

  3. Toned and match the colour of the cloth

  4. Rebuilt the corners to protect the book block

  5. Covered the corners with toned Japanese paper
